Has anyone seen "Kingdom of Heaven"? |
|
Ridley Scott's big Crusades epic.
I bought it at Costco today and was going to watch it.

What was so bad about it? Did you like Gladiator?

Kingdom of Heaven just seemed forced and really, really cheesy. There's a part in Kingdom that is much like the end of Gladiator, where the hero gets carted off the field. Gladiator took what could have been a cliche act and made it very nice. Kingdom didn't.
That whole movie is cliche.

4. Gladiator was overrated |
|
IMO. I don't like epic movies.
Plus, Russell Crowe is a scum bag.

Watch it with the Pilgrim's Guide turned on. It will make all the difference in the world. Pilgrim's Guide explains all sorts of things and really was very interesting, even when I knew quite a bit about the 1st and 2nd Crusades.

it's not as bad as Troy. The first time my husband and I saw it was a few months back when it was on HBO. About 20 minutes into the movie we both started laughing our asses off when the market scene rolled. There, in living color, as the saying goes, were not 1 but 2 llamas! Having also recently watched Holy Grail", I immediately shouted - "Oh my gods, it's Ralph the Wonder Llama and his cousin Fred." Our comments went downhill from there. And yes, alcohol was involved, but not in the amount needed to blot the memory of Troy from our brains. LOL

8. Troy didn;t even follow the story line.... |
|
Don;t you love when Hollywood throws out the plot line of an historical epic just to placate a narcissistic actor....

You're not kidding. At least they got an actor with an ego as big as Achilles' to play him. About the only things Troy had in common with the Iliad were the premise that a war was fought because a prince of Troy eloped with Agamemnon's wife, Helen, and some of the characters' names. Other than than, it was your standard Grade Z Saturday afternoon at the movies, sword n' sandals picture. The only thing lacking was the bad voice dubbing and stilted English.

12. I believe it was Menelaus (sp), Agamemnon's brother |
|
who was married to Helen...
A few years back, one of the networks did a story about Odysseus...
They started it at the end point of the Illiad, before the fall of troy...
It was much better...

15. You're right - it was |
|
Menelaus, king of Sparta, who was married to Helen. I do so much better with Egyptian history than Greek I'm afraid.

9. Guy two rows ahead of me in the theater... |
|
actually fell asleep halfway through. I could hear him snoring.
...and I didn't blame him. One of the most boring movies I've ever seen.

11. Well...Orlando is quite fetching in it... |
|
so is Liam Neeson. So it's worth it for the eye-candy factor. Just don't go in expecting it to be the greatest movie you've ever seen and you should be fine.

16. Sounds like a Netflix pick.... |
|
Since some have mentioned the dreadful "Troy"--at least Orlando was supposed to be eye-candy in that flick. And he did get to put Sensitive Guy Achilles out of his misery.

14. Good eye-candy at least. |
|
Honestly, it's not the worst movie I've ever seen. And I did like how negativly the knights templar were portrayed. Don't be expecting Oscar material, though.

17. Go rent a copy and if you don't like it, return the Costco one.... |
|
And if you like it, just keep it!
I loved it!
It really makes you think about things from many different points of view. It doesn't follow normal stereotypes in terms of present day thinking. I really ended up feeling something (good and bad) for every character.
Plus, I looked around the internet for information on the subject and the freepers clearly HATE IT WITH A PASSION so there has to be something good about it! LOL!
Anyway, I saw it twice and loved it more the second time!
