1. Sounds like the beginning of a Penthouse Forums letter.
"I'm a sophomore at a small midwestern college, and I NEVER thought this would happen to me!"

6. There's been an outbreak of polio in a couple of the Amish communities
I forget where.

I used to have it bad for an Amish girl, so I know where you're coming from.

7. When I went to Chicago and back on Amtrak this summer
I was surprised to see all the Amish families traveling on the train. Even the babies wore old-style clothing.

8. Haven't seen AngryAmish post in a while. I wonder if they are supposed
to be an actual Amish that happens to use the Internet (?) or someone who bailed on the Amish lifestyle, or someone who chose that userID just out of a sense of ironic fun...

10. I never heard the term english while growing up near a sizeable Amish
settlement. It was white man. There was the Amish man and the white man.

11. I knew a girl who worked at a Woolworths in Lancaster Co PA.
She told me about Amish girls going to Woolworths to buy frilly underwear for late night shennanigans. Although these girls were seized by uncontrolable lust, they still maintained the frugality that they had been raised under. When those buggies are rocking, don't come a knocking.

12. I spent a few days in China with a Mennonite family; mom, dad & daughter,
who were lovely, educated, peaceful, worldly, well travelled and delightful. We were all traveling together on a tour to Beijing.

The dad was significantly older than the mom, who at first glance looked to be about 16, turned out she was almost 30, but he was well into his 70's nonetheless. The child was just 12 and utterly adorable.

They were extremely well traveled and were making plans to spend xmas in Paris. He was dutch, and she was from an enclave in upstate NY where she was considered rather wicked for learning how to drive!

They were energetic, enigmatic and kind people who made a real impression on me.
