Hell, it looks seriously like Chicago's 46-year pennant drought is coming to an end!! I'm THRILLED!!!
As a native-born South Sider, I have waited all my life for this! I was there in 1977. I was there at Disco Demolition. I was there for the heartbreak of 1983...DAMN, THIS IS OUR YEAR!!!
P.S. Now, in 1985, my family moved to Texas, and I became a White Sox / Astros fan. The internet wasn't around then, and you couldn't get good media coverage on a non-local team, so, while retaining allegiance to the White Sox, my one and only choice for a local team was the 'Stros...couldn't root for the Rangers, they were in direct competition with the Sox!
So now...as a long-suffering fan of both the White sox, and the 'Stros...I may finally see both my favorite teams win their first-ever-in-my-lifetime pennants....IN THE SAME YEAR!!!
I'm practically beside myself, I am so excited right now!!
34 years of suffering as a White Sox fan...20 years of suffering as a 'Stros fan...and it may all finally become worth it all - this year!!
Now THAT is a fan! Someone who never gives up, good times and bad! It's EASY to be a fan of a winner, but be a long-suffering fan like I have been, and then you are a fan!
Now, having said that, I do tip my hat to the Angel fans who went till 2002 for their first. They were long-suffering too. But now, it is our turn!
