I saw Elizabethtown last night...with the exception of Orlando being
some serious eye candy and a pretty funny scene involving "Free Bird", wait until it comes out on DVD. It was pleasant enough, but I could have used the sleep. :hi:

1. It looks like we saw the whole thing in previews....
That was a DVD waiting to happen as far as I am concerned...

2. How was Paula Dean?
She plays the mother ...

I like her on her cooking show (although if I made the kind of food she does I would weight 400 lbs.) and I think this is her first acting role.

3. Susan Sarandon is the mother. Paula Dean is his aunt. She had
a couple of good lines. The illustration of family getting together for a funeral and the interactions was kind of cute. She did well. :hi:

4. It's a Tom Cruise production
I'll be skipping it forever.

Oh and I hate Paula Deen.

5. That doesn't bother me...he didn't act
in it....I'd miss out on too many movies if I let my dislike of the producer into it.

6. From the trailer, it seemed liked Crowe was trying to do a Kate Hepburn/
Bringing up Baby thing with Dunst's performance -- that cool, irreverant chick thing.

7. Damn Kirsten Dunst
I can't stand her, so that kind of ruins the whole thing for me. And I love Cameron Crowe movies too! I wish I could get excited about this one, but his choice of casting this time is just so underwhelming. I don't even know if I'll bother with the DVD. :(

8. I hear ya!
Who let simpering Kirsten Dunst into a Cameron Crowe/Orlando Bloom movie? I don't think I can even stand to watch it on DVD.

12. She's just flat.
She can act, sort of. I thought she was very good in Mona Lisa Smile. However, she just wasn't right in the role.

Sarah Polley or even (blech) Kate Hudson would have been better.

21. The only reason I would watch elizabethtown is
because of Kirsten Dunst. She is pretty liberal and very very beautiful.

looks like a good rental!

11. Sometimes I think I'm one of the few people who don't like Cameron Crowe
"Almost Famous" was enjoyable enough, and Fast Times at Ridgemont High" is a terrific movie (probably something to do with him not being the director), but I find his other films to be either saccharine, wordy crap ("Jerry Maguire," "Say Anything") or just bad ("Vanilla Sky").

Nothing too fabulous. :hi:

14. Poor Orlando can't do a very good American accent.
I'm no actress, so I'm sure accents are really hard, but during the trailer, his Britishness was really obvious. :)

15. I was a little impressed that he didn't slip into a British accent.
It's really apparent from some of his expressions that he's been hanging around Johnny Depp lately. :hi:

19. The previews kill it for me. There seems to be no chemistry
between the two leads.

There was also a funny side story called "Chuck and Cindy...The Wedding" that was kind of cute. :hi:
