Only served five guys at the soup kitchen today |
|
I am hoping everyone is alright. We usually serve 6-11 or so, but today was 5. We've had ten days of contious rain. Of the five we fed today, two share a home (they are brothers), the others are living on the street.
We made American Chop Suey, buttered toast, and carrot slaw. Mrs. McLargehuge made a huge blueberry buckle cake for us to serve too.
I hope the other guys are in a shelter somewhere or eating at one of the other kitchens in town. I'd hate to think something happened to them.

And you are to be commended for your community activism, my dear BigMcLargehuge!
Not too many people put their money where their mouths are.......
And you are one of them, as is your wife.......Good for you both!

2. I do it once a month when my Mother in Law has duty there |
|
the kitchen is in the basement of her church. It's one of the highpoints of my month. I brought Ian with me today and he helped serve the fellahs -
"Here you go! Happy Soup Kitchen!"
They all thought he was hilarious in his little apron and hat.
I will check in with the other kitchens in the program later this week to see if our missing friends ate somewhere else.

4. maybe when they heard you were serving American chop suey |
|
they all decided they could stand to lose a few pounds or it would be a good day for a fast. But that wouldn't eplain why they wouldn't show up for the blueberry buckle. I know that I would eat almost anything, if you promised me a dessert of blueberry buckle.

5. My American Chop Suey is fantastic |
|
almost all home made, except for the macaroni. Fresh tomato sauce, basil, oregano, vegetarian meatballs (those are storebought), red kidney beans, corn, onion, green peppers, bay leaves....
MMMMMMMMMMMMM!
