I went cycling yesterday with a friend of mine, and we did about forty miles. However, she was a champion decathlete in high school, and I was a middling-at-best cross country schlub. Her bike is a sleek, slender chrome-molybdenum miracle and mine is a crudely-framed monstrosity with obscenely thick "hybrid" tires. She wore an eye-catching lycra suit whereas I had my gear-side pant leg rolled up to below the knee.

Anyway, she completely kicked my ass. We went fast as hell (for me) and my legs are now incredibly sore. I can barely move today.

And I own a bike. And I like to maintain at least a pretense of physical fitness. And I can be stubbornly competitive to the point of causing bodily harm to myself.
