It was the American Dad to TDS's Family Guy, and that's putting it charitably
different strokes I guess

4. Daily show and Family Guy should not be in the same sentence. |
|
One is high satire, the other is a juvenile display of pop culture cliches, with a little racist bathroom humor thrown in for the unwashed.

7. I'm not trying to equate the Daily Show to |
|
Family Guy. I'm equating the reduction in quality in a "sister show" or whatever. Not that I accept your characterizatin of Family Guy anyway.

2. The "gravitas" part with Stone Phillips |

I was in utter stiches laughing so hard! I guess Stephen is going after the media itself while Jon focuses on the events.

the 'character' that Colbert is playing is too funny. Totally satirizing O'Reilly.

If TDS ever moved to network TV it would be the death of the show. Seriously. No way in hell would network suits allow Jon & crew to do their thing uncensored, considering Jon & crew make them look like complete asses every night.
Anyone who advocates TDS moving to network TV ought to look at what happened to another hilarious Comedy Central current events show hosted by a smart ass comedian that moved to network TV...hint: its initials are, "P.I."

This show is just brilliant.
For me, it's better than the daily show, and I was surprised by that. I'm not sure it'll be as popular though, because not everyone gets (or likes) the sarcastic/satiric nature of the show.

12. I see a problem with the interview phase of the show |
|
He doesn't seem to know whether to come out of mocking mode. The guest doesn't seem to get whats going on. And so Colbert can't get a rythm going. It needs to be ironed out.

13. All good interviewers fall into a rhythm after a few years or sooner |
|
Jon Stewart wasn't born to be on of the best interviewers ever - it didn't happen overnight. He's been perfecting it for a long time.
For a basically rookie live interviewer (all the reports in the field can be edited), Colbert did very well. He'll get better as it goes on.

so he doesn't have an issue of whether to come out of character during an interview like Stephen Colbert does.
