Anyone know about coin collecting?

No connection to anything in the news -

I have a coin - a quarter - with what seems, to me at least, to be a 'abnormality.' One spot is bulges out on one side (eagle - tails side). It is a 1980 quarter which has been in circulation, so that portion is smooth and shiny, while the rest - though not worn - is dirty.

At first I thought that it had been damaged on the other side by a blow with a hammer or something, but the other side is nnot dented at all and the imprint on that side is normal.

Any help would be appreciated. I couldn't find a DU group on caoins. I am going to try to research elsewhere when I get a chance, but as I hang arounf here mostly, I thought I would see if anybody here had any ideas ...
