3. Do you drink diet soda?
Aspertame caused killer headaches for me.

I stopped drinking diet, and the headaches went away.

5. Could be hormonal, too.
Just a thought.

Are you drinking enough water? I'll sometimes get headaches if I'm not hydrated enough.

In the meantime, hope you're feeling better soon. I hate headaches, you have my sympathies...

7. one thing---watch out for foods with nitrates and MSG
Edited on Tue Oct-18-05 02:58 PM by Zuni
my brother used to get terrible headaches until his doctor told him to try to avoid nitrates and msg.

he gets killer headaches a lot less now.

I have no idea if your headaches are related though.
speaking of allergies, I have been getting all stuffed up and sneezing during the evening for the last few days. Any idea what fall allergy that is?

on edit: :hi: Mrs. Sniffa

Edited on Tue Oct-18-05 03:01 PM by Mrs. Sniffa
learned that a while back...if you are sneezing now... it is ragweed season...and dust can always be a culprit, or mold, what with all this rain...

on edit: hi Zuni, feel better :pals:

14. Migraines?
Migraines can be brought on by stress, hormones, certain food and drink triggers, changes in barometric pressure.
You may want to talk to a doctor about whether they are migraines. If they are, you can avoid food triggers and use prescription meds to lessen the pain.
BTW, I get migraines. Migraine symptoms do differ from person to person.

20. I was having really bad ones for a while
They'd hit around the same times every day, sometimes twice a day (once around sunset, and once in the middle of the damn night, bad enough to wake me up)...it came on suddenly, it was only on one side of my head, it only lasted on average about 2 hours, and it hurt like pure hell.

I discovered I may have something called "cluster headaches", which I wasn't aware of the name for, but all the symptoms seem to fit. Worth looking into if any of that sounds familiar...

Mine seem to have stopped for the time being...I guess it can be a seasonal thing, from what I've read.

Anyway, hope you feel better...headaches suck!

27. This morning's daily dose of Dr Weil said:
Butterbur: Natural Migraine Relief

If you suffer from migraines, and don't like the thought of taking strong prescription medications, consider trying butterbur (Petasites hybridus). This herb is native to Europe, northern Africa and southwestern Asia, and has been used for centuries as an effective remedy for headaches, back pain and asthma. More recent evidence suggests migraine sufferers may benefit from butterbur's actions - reducing inflammation and spasms in blood-vessel walls - without experiencing the side effects associated with prescription medications (except some burping). A study published in Neurology, Dec. 28, 2004, reported that after four months, people taking 75 mg of butterbur daily for migraines had 48 percent fewer migraine attacks per month - similar to the effects of prescription migraine drugs. Be very careful about the butterbur you purchase - only use butterbur extracts that are guaranteed to be free of pyrrolizidine alkaloids. The adult dosage ranges from 50-100 mg twice daily, and should be taken with meals.

30. Asking for likely diagnosis I would think qualifies... headaches can be
Edited on Tue Oct-18-05 03:59 PM by Mayberry Machiavelli
a manifestation of routine, non life threatening things like sinus problems, caffeine withdrawal, etc. up to including life threatening problems like meningitis, bleeding in the brain, aneurysms or brain tumors.

So if someone were "reassured" that their headaches were just allergies or whatever based on an internet posting without having been interviewed or examined, when in fact it was something more serious, I'd think this would expose the message board to liability, assuming this is the reason "medical advice" threads are locked in the first place.

I'm just sayin', is all.

35. Well, I won't comment further.. if you reread your post, it basically
asks the question, "What do you think is causing these headaches? I think it might be allergies, but I'm not sure."

I don't really see how it is different from someone asking "why do you think I'm numb around my right ear?", either sincerely looking for answers, or looking for reassurance that it's nothing serious...

No biggie, not trying to get into a flame war.
