I need another cat

It has been almost a year since my baby died in my arms. Maybe it's time to move on and get another cuddler. She (Spike) was over 20 years old and died in my arms. When I got her, she was just slightly less than 3 weeks old... I had to feed her with a dropper. Didn't think she would live. But she did. I miss her so much. But, I also miss the companionship. So... should I get another cat (I really want a kitten... if you have a fireplace and a kitten, you don't need a kitten). I'm not asking DUers for their opinions. I'm just sorta mulling out loud, so to speak.

2. Oh, definitely!

That goes without saying. Unfortunately, the shelters here do not adopt out kittens. They wait until they are older (at least 9 months old). Plus, you have to pay for the fixing as well as shots. Not that that is a bad thing. I just want a little tiny kitten. Hard to get. I would still do the fixing and shots. I just want to bond with a baby (6 weeks at least). Call me selfish. But that's what I want.

3. I know how it is.

We had Sesame for 19 years. That's a big chunk of a person's life, really. New babies, school, different houses & jobs ... babies graduating from high school. Sesame was always there. We had to get another one. We actually got two, Satchmo & Sabrina. Then came Sophie and Sashka. I miss Sesame like crazy, but these four kitties have filled holes in my heart that I didn't know I had.

4. I am highly in favor of 2 little tiny cats. They will double your

pleasure and keep one another entertained as well.

Check with the local vets. They often know who has kittens on the way. Then you can maybe even see them before their eyes open and get them used to your scent, handle them, etc.


My boys are all grown and I miss their kitten days!

I understand the need to wait a while when you lose one you have had for a long time. You sound ready to me

As soon as I get my scanner organised, I will post a beautiful picture of Spike. It is sooo funny... she is sprawled out on my folks deck enjoying the sun. To be honest, she looks like she's dead but she is so beautiful. I don't know about two, though. It would depend on the cat.

Yes, our little furry friends are wonderful. Although I adore kittens, but they have so much energy and are so downright destructive sometimes -- it's grown cats for me from here on out.
