8. saw "14 kids and pregnant again" last night
and i couldn't sleep.

CREEPY.

what a weird stepford family. all the boys have the same side-part haircut, they were dressed the same, walked the same, talked the same, and so on and so on. the visuals of the family moving as a group reminded me of ants or birds, moving and responding to some invisible cues like a single body.

could they possibly look more like a republican christian family. they look like the models for the original uptight white fundies.

really CREEPY.

i think its funny that this family is embraced by the christian right, if they were black it would be totally different.

i think the parents in this family are addicted to attention and to breeding.

13. Jim Bob quote,
"Start protecting your family by removing books, magazines, television, or internet that have worldly or sensual content. Replace them with good things like wholesome music, biographies of great Christians, good old-fashioned family fun and games."

Because after all, no one ever thought about sex before these things were around. Bury your head in the sand and all is well. :eyes:

If they take care of their children, I don't care how many children they have, but their heads are a bit in the sand on a number of things.

14. Wait For The Teen/Independent Years x 16
Those Kids Will Go F*cking Wild When See What's Out There For The 1st Time, Living The Sheltered Life Is Great For The Parents, But When They Get Older, It Ain't Gonna Be So Great...Think Kid In A Candy Store!

22. KIds that age need a parent they can go to...
We all ultimately have to make these kind of choices for ourselves. Kids like that have no knowledge base to make the choices and I think are more easily lead astray (with huge emotional complexes related to normal intimacy to top it off).

15. You know, I went to school with a bunch of fundie kids
Their dad was extremely religious and pretty much ran his business into the ground because he was tithing 10% of the gross instead of the net profit.

Anyhow, he and his wife had 9 kids and every one of those kids was in some sort of trouble either in school or with the law. They all road on our school bus and in general they were actually pretty nice kids - just rebelling against the religion forced down their throats by their parents.

But knowing this family, they probably homeschool their 16 kids. I feel sorry for that mom because basically she has been repressed back to the stone ages.

21. I remember "the minister's daughter" back in high school.
She drank like a fish and really was a busy girl. Her business, but it's the idea of hypocrisy and "holier than though" attitudes that bug me.

24. Why do people think everyone was a prude before the 20th Century?
This whole idea of "sex is bad and dirty" is very recent and modern. Even the Puritans didn't completely look at it that way. Most of US and European history saw sex as lusty and mormal... even if it was usually sexist. Very starnge.... what are they afraid of?

And yeah, I get a weird Exodus Ex-Gay vibe from him, too...

16. Wrong for me. Wrong for many DUers apparently. But who is to say
life like this is wrong for everyone? We can speculate about what the kids' lives are like or what they'll be like when they grow up. But the way others live isn't up to us.

18. To each their own, I guess, but what I want to know is
how in the hell does anyone even afford to have that many children?

I mean food, clothing...just the square footage of the house?

I see that they're homeschooled, but what about college? If they all decide to become doctors or lawyers, I hope he and she have a couple jobs apiece.

20. No need to worry
All the girls will be married off by the time they're 19 -- being a broodmare is obviously what gawd intends for us XXers. No there's no reason to be concerned about them deciding to go to Harvard Law.

27. i knew a family of 12 in high school
they were irish catholics, dad was blue collar and couldn't have made more than 40k a year. they got free scholarships to the catholic school we all went to, and the older kids i was associated with got full ride scholarships to college.

i assume the church was involved, the family got deliveries from a local bakery every week (donated), grocery deliveries (donated) and the church gave them money for school clothes and such. the younger kids thought it was normal for a family to get free bread deliveries once a week.

all the kids were members of a church youth group as were some other kids on our school bus, but they wouldn't tell anyone where the meetings were. it was all very secret, they talked about it all the time but wouldn't let anyone else join.
