BLOOMINGTON, Ind. --The Monroe County Jail has money to buy toilet paper again. The County Council voted Tuesday to allow Jail Commander Bill Wilson to move $26,000 in extra personnel funds to another account so he could buy more toilet paper and other supplies.
The 5-1 vote marked a reversal from a week earlier, when it had voted against transferring the funds.
"I don't know of any of us who want you to go home without toilet paper," council member Marty Hawk said Tuesday.
The vote also means the jail can buy plastic eating utensils, foam cups, cleaning supplies and even hair nets that it needs to run the jail on a daily basis. Wilson had projected the jail would run out of such basic items by the end of the month.
The council also allowed Sheriff Steve Sharp to transfer funds among accounts to pay for more costly gasoline.
