What will the mayors of Chicago and Houston be wagering??
Mayor Daley has put up deep dish pizza from Lou Malanati's, steaks from Gibson's Steakhouse, pierogies from Kasia's Polish Deli, fried Lake Michigan perch from BJ's Market, Italian Beef sandwiches from Tuscany's, Lemonheads and Fireballs candies from Ferrara Pan Candy Company, Peking Duck from Lao Sze Chuan, and Jay's Potato Chips...when the Sox played the Angels in the ACLS. I imagine that he'll put up something similar for the World Series.

But what can the mayor of Houston, whoever that is, possible have to offer?

Any ideas?

12. NOOOOO!!!!! Not those guys!!!!
Delay was my rep when I lived in Houston. I moved to get away from him. I'd hate to see him show up here.

Illinois does have a fine facility in downstate Marion for those two.

14. Italian Beef from Tuscany?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Tuscany is fine fine place (but no better than 40 other Italian joints in the city). However, proper Italian beef must come from a beef stand. And Tuscany is not a beef stand.

Mayor Daley, we can do better.

15. I'm gonna agree with you there.
Al's on Taylor Street, or even Mr. Beef would have been a better choice. But they wouldn't know the difference in Houston. Trust me.

16. we can talk politics, religions etc without getting me upset
But I know my beef stands and I have almost gotten in fistfights over the relative qualities of beef stands.

Best stand in Chicago (city limits) is----- Boston's at Chicago and Grand. Best stand in the metro area is of course Johnnie's on North in Elmwood Park (just west of Harlem).

Al's is ok but I am not a fan of Mr. Beef. Sorry.

19. Ah yes. Johnnies.
It was bliss when I had a job that required me to drive all over Chicagoland and I got to go to Johnnie's and Frannie's up on River Road.

These days, I go to one of 2 places down in the south burbs. "Hot Spot" at 166th & Halsted in Harvey, or "Athens" at 183rd & Halsted in Glenwood.

Hot Spot is a fabulous place for everything, but it's take out only. It's a great unknown out of the way place.

18. Our Mayor is Bill White. He was on national news recently.
Of course, he's not part of a famous political dynasty. Many of us remember the first Mayor Daley--but not with fondness.

Haven't heard yet what he will wager. Gulf seafood--Southern style, Cajun style, Mexican style, Asian style? Chiles en Nogada from Pico's Mex Mex? Green sauce & Ninfaritas from Ninfa's on Navigation?

Jim Goode's restaurant empire has fine Seafood, Barbecue, Tex-mex, etc. You can sample them all in one area, if you don't get killed crossing Kirby. http://goodecompany.com/goodeRestaurant.aspx

Houston's a fine restaurant town but not so good for tourists. So we mostly keep the best ones to ourself.

The Pappas family of restaurants could handle just about every type of cuisine, too.

Smokehouse rules.

And so does Goode's Taqueria for breakfast.
