Would you take it as a sign if a hurricane hit your wedding location twice
:-(

First, it was Emily. The resort rebuilt and just opened this month. Now, it looks like Wilma is headed there and we'll know the extent of the damage tomorrow.

I'm so depressed just thinking about it.

1. Yes. Of course, we got married overlooking Lake Erie.
That would DEFINITELY have been a bad omen.

5. I think she's cheating on me.
The gas company has been out THREE times since we've been married. I don't see how that can be coincidental.

My wife is fucking the gas man!

11. Sorry
I just reread it and you are very clever and amusing.

I'm just a little self-involved with my issue right now.

BTW, is everything straightened out now. Have they backed down on charging you for all the gas that spewed out? If your house blew up because of their incompetence, would they hold you accountable for that bill as well?

19. Definitely fight it
Just pay what you normally would and contest the rest. Does Ohio have a utilities board? Maybe the newspaper or TV station would be interested? It's a good story. Their incompetence could have killed your family, and then they want you to bill you for it.

and saying, with tears in their eyes, "We could have died!" Maybe they will give you free heat for the whole winter.

(Not to make light and I'm glad everyone's OK)

2. Nah...
We got married outside during one with gusty winds, torrential rain and tornado warnings/watches all around us. It made for an adventure, but a fun one. And, it is something we still talk about. :-)

6. I bet it is something you still talk about
No matter what, we'll figure out a way to get married next month. And, it will be perfect because it's the end result that matters.

But, we had such simple plans: Just the two of us in a gazebo overlooking the ocean. I just don't want it to get complicated at the last-minute.

14. Well, we're not scheduled in hurricane season
that's just when the hurricanes are destroying the resort.

Actully, I almost booked during this time until somebody called my attention to hurricane season. Now that would have been a disaster.

10. Yep
I looked at the trajectories. It doesn't look so good, does it?

She prevviously mentioned moving us to another location, but it just won't be the same. And, it looks like *all* of their better resorts are going to be swept away. I'm not sure where we are going to end up. :-(

22. i would take it somewhat as a sign of poor planning
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 10:56 AM by pitohui
i am not really enthused abt the promotion of cheap bachelor parties & honeymoons during hurricane season, i've always been conflicted abt the relatively recent promotion of new orleans area for that purpose during august, it just doesn't seem quite right

if you are shopping price, and young couples starting out do have to make tough financial choices, i can see why such resorts as cancun in hurricane season seem attractive, the prices really drop -- but you need to be aware that these prices are low for the very reason that you are being given a discount for the chance of serious disruption

the atlantic hurricane season is june 1 thru november 30, but if you avoid planning special trips to hurricane-prone regions aug-oct you will minimize yr chance of disruption

it says nothing abt yr future as a married couple except that you are starting out w. maybe not a lot of money, as most young couples do, & you selected some bargains that turned out badly due to bad luck

don't get spooked

maybe try vegas, october should be pretty safe & lots of resorts there, yeah i know they got some rain the other day, all 1.36 inches of it!

reading the entire thread, i see yr honeymoon is in november, however, things will likely not be back to normal by then, & tho yr travel agent didn't mention it, it is STILL hurricane season, i would still try to get my reservations changed elsewhere

25. Umm, thanks for all your support
But, if you look upthread, our date is Nov. 17, so we did not plan it during the height of hurricane season as a result of poor planning.

The problem is Emily leveled the resort in JULY and they just re-opened this month. This hurricane is in OCTOBER.

The problem is, if there is extensive damage again, I doubt the facility will be operational in another month, when we plan to be there.

BTW, we are not a young couple; we do just fine for money; and this is quite an expensive resort no matter what the season.

I'm not spooked, just frustrated. As far as somewhere else, we have non-refundable, non-transferable airline tickets to Cancun and already have paid for the resort as they require payment in advance because of the demand. We could end up losing money, and that sucks for anyone.

24. Just Bad Timing And Coincidence. There's No Such Thing As "Signs".
I mean... come ON... who would be sending this "sign"? And if there was some force that was powerful enough to send signs, I can think of much more direct ways to send you a signal, that aren't so destructive to other people's property and lives.

Besides... do you think that the resort has ONLY been used for your wedding location? Perhaps the sign is meant for some OTHER couple that was married or honeymooned there. Surely that's it! :hi:

26. I don't *really * believe in signs
I was just trying to think of a provacative thread title in which to vent.

And even if I did believe in signs, I don't think either of us is so special as to drum up a major hurricane against our union. ;-)
