Whatever happened to Arthur Treacher's restaurants?
I remember getting the best goddamned chicken fillets there. They used to be all over the place....now according to this website, last updated 2001, there's a shitload of 'em in Florida, a few in New York and Connecticut, but none west of the Mighty Mississip'.

What gives, Mr. Treacher?

And who the hell WAS Arthur Treacher, anyhow?

1. I remember them from when I was a kid, too.
It used to be a highlight of going to the mall.

6. There's One Just A Few Miles From My House...
It's been on that corner for quite a while. The parking lot is MUCH larger than is given to fast-food restaurants these days.

8. Not actually going....just having food fantasies/cravings.
Been on a diet for about three weeks now. Mostly raw veggies, but I cheat a bit and have had some chicken and turkey in the last week or so. I'm not planning on breaking my diet. I just suddenly had a craving for their chicken this morning and went "Hmmmmmm."

12. There's one about 1 1/2 miles from my house in Vienna, VA.
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 01:16 PM by 11 Bravo
(Maybe that's why Vienna was chosen the 4th best spot in the U.S. to live. I love their fish filets with lots of malt vinegar!

on edit: I just looked my store up. It has a Fairfax address, but Fairfax is right next to Vienna.

14. We used to go to Arthur Treacher's in Minnesota years ago.
Like 30 years ago.

They've been gone from MN for a good many years, though.

15. They were better than the "Long John Silver" greasepits here in CA.
Last Arthur Treacher's I've seen was in Tampa, 1977.

17. There was one just down the street from my house
when I lived in Miami. It was within walking distance. I loved their fish and chips. There aren't any here in Georgia.

18. There is one about 5 minutes from where I work
I go there once in a great while. Not my favorite place, but not bad for a change of pace.

19. I miss Arthur Treacher's
There was one just a mile or so from my house back in the 1970s. Very tasty fish & chips for a fast food place.
