Poll question: How did you meet # 2 - inspired by Shine's question
Great question, Shine, and I'll answer in your thread.

This poll is for those currently in relationships. I only want to know one thing:

Did you meet online? Strictly ONLINE. No "we met at a party but love blossomed through email."

Whether on a message board, in chat, in a game, through a dating site, or you replied to a mass email with something sarcastic and someone else on the list replied directly to you and that touched something off....

Did you meet online?

5. Cool, I like your poll, Bertha. Ties in nicely....
Well, I told my story on my other thread, so no more news here.

:)

It's interesting to see how many met online. What a modern world we live in!!

My sis met her hubby online, for what it's worth. Two years and a kid later and they're still goin' strong...

We met here and anyone who knows either of us knows the shear irony of that. We spent almost year occasionally writing one another "How're you doing?" messages and opened up to each other about some stuff. We both had these random moments thinking, "Why can't I ever meet someone like that?", but didn't think much about it. Eventually, we were both free at the same time and something clicked. Neither one of us wanted to do "the internet thing" for very long (so we went out within about 2-3 weeks of when we first talked) and we live nearly 200 miles from each other, but we manage to still spend usually at least couple of days with each other every week.

A few days short of 6 months together in 36 days, he's moving in with me. I've never met such a loving man who thinks so much like me. I believe everything we have both gone through in the past couple of years was to prepare us for our destiny together (and yes I know that's sappy, but this cynical woman has been blown away). He makes me think and feel what I thought was long dead in me years ago, but even better. I believe we are each other's Karma for trying to be decent people and do the right thing in the face of a lot of pain and sacrifice.

We're at the point now where we are getting frustrated by e-mails and phone calls (probably because we spent 6 days in a row together this past week) and are both very ready to move forward on a regular, permanent basis.

He shaves twice a day when he's with me and we have learned to better coordinate our one incompatibility- our chins (mine is long and pointy and his is more square). :D

14. Try living 1600 miles apart.
It's much harder.

200 miles, although gas is expensive, is still far less than a $500 plane ticket.

He might as well live on the Moon. It's probably closer to NY than Australia. (Post 9/11 US immigration is a real bitch)

24. Yikes, Cho
Saw your post on the other thread. Australia INDEED would be difficult.

I had a friend about 15 years ago who was in love with a girl from there; he went over with very little, worked on his art, and lived hand to mouth with her for at least a couple of months. He loved it.

I hope for the best for you!

Luckily, Fen will be done with school in May. And we can see each other every two months (more or less). He spent five weeks in Seattle with me this summer, and I'm down in Texas now for 10 days.

How are you?:hi:

32. Yeah, that would have been a blast!
I expect at least 100 trick-or-treaters at my house so I need to be home for the festivities there.

I'm pretty good - had my epidural shot last week and it's helped a lot. My arm is still really weak, so Neil's carrying everything for me. :D

9. Yep.
We met on a MUD (multi user dungeon...think text-based Dungeons & Dragons). Considering he's an Aussie, there's no way we would ever have met otherwise, which blows my mind when I think about it. Fate is weird sometimes.

13. In a sense
It's probably because reading tarot has influenced me, but I do believe in fate. Just not in the way that most people do. I think there's certain "paths" of fate...kinda like a giant road map, and the road you end up on is affected by a lot of different variables (chance, free will, etc.).

Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 01:50 PM by no name no slogan
First it was some innocent, good-natured flirting on a couple of threads. Eventually we exchanged PMs. And then we made phone calls to each other, oftentimes lasting several hours.

Finally, we met in person in late August, for the first time. We've been fairly discrete, but recently we've been much more open about our relationship. We were together a couple weeks ago, too, and she's coming to visit me over Thanksgiving.

We do plan to live in the same place, eventually, and are looking towards the long-term. I truly feel as if I have found my soulmate-- something I never felt in my previous relationships (or my nine-year marriage, for that matter). We know what each other is thinking, and are truly "co-conspiritors" in the best sense of the word. Although we've only been together a short time, I feel like I've known her all my life.

Ye godz, I am sappy-- but happy. :7

27. Yes, in 1989
back before the internet we had local bulletin board systems. My wife was the SYSOP of an adults-only BBS and I was a user.

Those were interesting days. For anyone who does not know, these BBSs were single line systems, meaning I dialed on my 2400 baud modem to the BBS computer, and no one else could be on until I was finished.

On the fun side, the SYSOP could trap the user in chat mode and flirt like mad....

in a chat room in 12/96. He was here in OK and I was in Columbus, OH. Met in person first time over Valentine's weekend '97. I knew I was going to end up married to him before he even got off the plane! I came down here the following April, he asked me to marry him then. We married in OH in 7/97 after spending maybe 15 days in each other's actual presence as we travelled back and forth from Feb to July. Best thing that ever happened!! My family was freaked about the whole thing at first but it didn't take long until they were cool with it except for the fact I am so far away now.

Edited to add wedding pic. His hair is now longer than mine!
