Family friend, Arthur "Dutch" Shultz, Normandy Vet, Died Yesterday
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 04:41 PM by Taverner
Our family friend, died yesterday. He was well into his 80's, and the man had an oxygen tank for the last several years of his life, but this is not how I want to remember him.

Instead, I want to remember him as the young man who was part of the Normandy Invasion. I want to rember him from the old 30's era pic we had of him looking proud in his military uniform, one which was taken days after he signed up to fight in the war against Hitler.

He was one of the first on Omaha beach, and was one of the characters in the movie "The Longest Day", a movie based on the events of that historic day.

The man was also one of us - a true FDR Democrat. A man who, upon the beginning of the Iraq war, said "this is wrong - this is why Germany got invaded..."

He will be buried in Arlington.

Rest in Peace Dutch.....

1. RIP. Thanks for fighting for our freedom and stopping
Hitler. He needed to be stopped. Wow, you knew someone who fought the nazis? That's truly special.

2. I knew I'd heard that name before.
He won the money in the crap game the night before D-Day, then thought he'd have better luck if we went back and lost it all, right?

RIP Dutch.
