Legendary New Orleans music station WWOZ is back on the air!
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 06:34 PM by KamaAina
broadcasting from a studio in Baton Rouge, like the whole rest of the world, but what the hey! (Hint: "Yatman", my N'Awlins alter ego, has a plan whereby they could share with another noncom FM whose studios are in unflooded Uptown.)

WWOZ 90.7 FM IS BACK!
WWOZ is now broadcasting at 90.7 FM in New Orleans from our temporary facility in Baton Rouge. Please see our schedule for broadcast details.

Take your pick of the MP3 stream (they actually have been streaming all along, with help from WFMU in NJ):

or Windows:

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Edit: They play mostly indigenous New Orleans music, jazz, blues and R&B, with some Cajun and zydeco thrown in on occasion.

2. WFMU rallied to their cause
WFMU is a community radio station out of East Orange, NJ, well loved amongst music geeks. WFMU took up the hat for WWOZ, soliciting visitors to their web site for donations to help rebuild their NOLA counterpart which had lost everything in Katrina. I chipped in $50 and I'm glad to see them putting it to good use.
