Any New Yorkers know why
some of the major online photo shops such as Adorama and BHP Photo and Video are closed from Oct 17th through Oct 26th? Is is some sort of photo holiday?

1. Let's examine a major religious group in NYC.
That would be the Jews. Funny thing is, all the major photo places are run by Orthodox Jews, don't really know why, but they sure do run a damn good photo store, case in point B&H. Right now, it's Yom Kippur and associated high holy days. So, yeah, I guess in New York it's a photo holiday by association.

2. thank you for the info
I had ordered film and stuff from a number of stores and found out they won't be shipped until late Oct. One of the stores had a holiday schedule so I pulled it up just now and confirmed everything you just said. I wish I lived closer to stores as good as those, I bet they are fun just to browse looking for vintage stuff which is what I like to shoot with.

6. you mean
you could get me discounts? Cool.

My last name is Harris, I live in eastern Washington St. where the cows outnumber the people. Needless to say cows don't really have a need for vintage cameras so it's hard to find them. I think it has to do with the fact that cows don't have a thumb to focus with. I have seen plenty of digital cameras which leads me to believe the digital market leans towards the farmer or the cows.

I kinda get a kick out of finding an old camera, loading it up and see what comes out. I just picked up a Wirgin folding 120 size film camera that looks like it came right out of the box. I like this camera because of it's history, my model was made pre Nazi Germany. The Wirgin family was locked up and/or deported when the Nazis took over. Their factory was given to some other company. They came back after the war but could not get back into manufacturing like they once had. I just like to think, in a way I'm keeping this families name alive.

We'll never know if not for a maniacal leader what this family might have accomplished. Ummm we might know, we now have one of those leaders.
