You find them a lot using Google and other search engines, and it's a VAST page of just random words.

Why? What's the point?

subject lines.

2. So it's basically
just for spammers?

Why?

How does anyone make any money off of this?

6. It's all good!
:hi:

Yeah, that was my guess too, or else it puts a cookie on your computer that signs you up for spam, or something similar guarenteeing a big hassle later. :(

3. Global warming has decimated the monkey population
at least they had some chance of writing a great novel. I really don't like being so cynical.

5. They are google traps
People sell adspace on their site and they need people to click on their site to make money. So they put a huge list of words that people are likely to search for. Then when a net spider crawls across their site it collects all the words and tallies them up for future searches. You do your search, click on their site, and wonder what the heck was that. They just made some money.

11. I don't think they do..
Edited on Fri Oct-21-05 02:27 AM by Omphaloskepsis
Most of the services that pay for viewing an ad are gone. It is easy to tell how someone got to your site. They usually pay if someone actually clicks on the ad. You might not even get paid unless they buy something. All it would really take is making the link something like http://www.**************.com/index.php?r=123456

edit: That link actually goes somewhere--I didn't check first. I just made it up. I will change it.

That would let them know where you came from.

7. Do you have a link to one?
I have never seen this. I have seen sites with lots of words at the bottom hoping for a better page rank with search engines.. Do they have any content?

I can't find the one I just saw. :(

But it was like a spam e-mail... a whole site of random words.
