I may have to wait 14 months to graduate from college.
I'm supposed to be done in May of '06, but I may have to wait until May '07 to graduate college. The reason is because I owe the college $4,300 this semester, and I only have a grand total of $600 in my name. No one in my family is able to help me pay, and I am unable to get anymore grants.

So now I have to put my life on hold for over a year. I'll have to get a couple of minimum wage jobs to get the money needed to pay the college.

One fuckin' semester left. And I have to wait a year to finish. God...this sucks.

1. What about a student loan?
It wouldn't even take you very long to pay it back.

2. Start applying for scholarships and private student loans!
There are tons of both out there! There is absolutely no reason you should stop your life for $4,300! You can start here: http://www.suntrusteducation.com/

4. Get a co-signer
Just because no one in your family has $4,300, that doesn't mean someone can't help you out by just co-signing for a loan.

5. I can't get a cosigner.
My parents refuse and my mom said she'd kill me if I asked my grandparents.

:(

6. Hey, it's your future here.

If I were you, I'd forego the warning from your mom and ask anyway. If she cares about your future, which I should most definitely hope that she does, she'll deal with it.

On edit: And if she doesn't care about your future, well, you know what to do with that too.

9. I don't think my grandma would sign anyways.
She's frugal with her money. Hell, when I was younger, I had to beg to get a candy bar.

I don't know what I'll be able to do. Thanks for your help.

10. Man, that sucks. I was in a similar position to you
I had to wait an extra year before officially getting my degree, because at the time of my own graduation I still owed them some money.

(It was a fine for smoking dope in my dorm room).

But in my case it wasn't a big deal; even before I graduated I was still able to put my qualification on my CV, because if any prospective employers asked the university to confirm my qualifications they would have said yes. I asked them this myself to make sure. So I didn't have to put my life on hold for a year.

Won't your college do the same for you?
