"Get paid to take surveys" Anyone ever done this?
We're coming up short on $$ these days and since I am still an at-home mom who doesn't drive there aren't a lot of options for me to make money. (Babysitting is out, there's daycare in town and not enough kids around here to be able to get a job.)

So. These 'get paid to take surveys and be part of online focus groups' jobs. Has anyone done it? Is it worth it?

24. Yeah, I heard you have to sign up with about 20 of these places in order
to make a decent chunk of change.

3. The One I Belong To "Pays" Me With "Cash" Credits...
... that I redeem for discounts and other services. American Airlines offers 500 AAdvantage frequent-flyer-miles for redeeming just $25.00 in "cash". American Airlines only allows one purchase per calendar year, so it's best to save up the credits and make one big purchase frequent flyer miles.

4. Thanks! No interest in flying. I just need to buy some heating oil and
help get the credit card payments under control.

7. Most of them don't pay anything.
I do surveys for one that pays $5 per survey and get to test full-sized samples of products that are not on the store shelves yet.

9. I need money more than I need product samples. Unless they are
giving away heating oil, at which case I would like to sign up to take 100 galls worth of surveys. *lol*

8. Not worth the effort
You have to spend oodles of time on the computer filling out surveys for a very small return. You'd be better off working a few hours a week at Barnes & Noble or Starbucks.

10. With a kid in half-day kiddygarten I don't have a lot of options for part-
time work right now. (plus not a lot of work places in a town of 700.)

16. I asked her; her answer:
"I get invitations from surveyspot.com for paid surveys about twice a month. I usually do not qualify for them, though. The paid surveys usually take about 20 minutes to complete."

12. I've taken them and haven't gotten a goddamned thing.
Except...more offers to take more surveys. Which I now delete.

I don't have the slightest idea what these are for. I'm realizing they're just spam.

13. I've made about £4 in 2 years
with 'yougov'. Mostly I get offered to do ones that are like a lottery - 'Complete this and you could win £100'.

18. Is Craigslist an option?
For moneymaking, that is. If you have a Craigslist city near you, it may be a good way to make money. It is far easier than eBay.

21. I do, and I get paid about $1500 a year
Edited on Fri Oct-21-05 04:53 PM by Heddi
but it comes in drips and dribbles--got a check for $10 and another for $4 the other day, but probably won't get another for a month or two.

last month, I got 3 $20 checks and a bonus $50 check because I not only qualified for the $5 incentive for the survey, but my name was drawn in their monthly $50 bonus sweepstakes.

Other survey companies (greenfield online) give you $1 or $2 per survey you qualify for, but you don't know if you've qualified for the survey or not until 6-8 wks after you've completed the survey. I've got $4 in my account with greenfield online that's been sitting there for a year...never have "qualified" for any of the surveys I've taken in the last year, apparently.

Other survey places give you "points" for every survey you qualify for, and after so many points, you can cash the points out for either cash or merchandise. Lightspeed Panel does points, but I don't use mine for cash, but for lovely prizes (got a free George Foreman grill).

If you're looking for fast cash "do a survey today, get $50 tomorrow", it's not going to happen. I've been doing online surveys for about 4 years now and have made around $2500 in cash over that entire time, and have gotten TONS of free product samples, a free i-pod, $200 in starbux gift cards, $120 in gas cards, 3 bird feeders, george foreman grills, more magazine subscriptions than I can handle (I donate them to my school & local hospital), free bottles of liquor, a coffee maker, free coffee, toilet paper to sample, etc.

It all takes work, though, and the payouts are slow. I do it because I don't work, and I don't mind spending 2 hours a day filling out often repetative and tedious surveys to get 20 points here, or $2 there. If I had a full-time job, I probably wouldn't do it as much as I do.

Send me a PM if you want some links to the companies I work through that give really great rewards.
