To celebrate quitting smoking ......
Edited on Fri Oct-21-05 12:51 PM by Cathyclysmic
The Beast man and I are getting new living furniture...check it out. And the best part, they are not going to smell like stale cigs in a month!

1. Thought you were going to say "I'm going to light a cigar!"

4. I try not to be predictable
BTW, we are still in our 'jone-sing like a crack baby' stage of quitting smoking, so any mention of nicotine gives me a nervous tic.

7. Yeah I hear that
i had to go ahead and use shock therapy. i went to a party where almost everybody smoked and manage (with a lot of reinforcement from my girlfrien) to not smoke. It was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, so now, not smoking is sort of easy. Or at least, easier.

2. Good for you!
Stick with it, and the urge will disappear (if you're having cravings), and remember: quitting cigarrettes is easy-you just have to never smoke them again.

10. That is the theory
We used to spend about $300.00 a month on cigs

15. Well I'm glad you're working on it. It's worthwhile.
It's difficult I think though.

My dad really didn't quit until he got cancer, and even then I think he snuck a few here and there.

But I also know many people who succeeded. Good luck to you, and enjoy the furniture. You will have earned it doubly.

I have some experience of my own. When I was a kid I used to smoke pot habitually, and I remember that it was quite a struggle to stop. But I did stop. Now I can't imagine why I ever did that in the first place.

How long has it been? I seem to remember Beast Man saying something about it at the time you quit.

30. Just to hang in there.
I know it sounds trite and cliched, but it's true. Some days I had to use sheer force of will to get through a craving, but they subsided before too long and became very rare.

For tough times during rush hour in the beginning (I smoked a lot on my commute), I used Tootsie Pops as a substitute.

26. I quit 4/1/95.... not a puff since
You can do it! The first month is REALLY hard, so stick with it. It starts slowly getting better after that, I swear! If you get an urge, just remember it'll go away. Good for you!

9. That's FANTASTIC News...
We repainted our entire house after we quit smoking (and when we were convinced that we had really quit for good). It was ASTOUNDING how much everything had been smoke stained.

Congratulations on your accomplishments!!

14. Congratulations to you!!
It will be one year come November 24 that I lost my dear Mom-Mom to emphysema  I always try to remind people when they smoke that it hurts others, too, so kudos to you for doing something monumentally good for yourself, your SO, and everyone else who loves you (including of course, us at DU) ;)

And that sofa is awesome! I just love the color. Think of all the money you'll be saving...you'll be able to afford all new clothes with the money you'll have left over from not buying cigarettes!

Congratulations again, you should be very proud of yourself! :bounce:

18. Thanks
so true...really ugly what smoking does to a body. Sorry about your mom, emphysema doesn't get as much lip service as lung cancer, but it is just a debilitating.

thanks!

20. Oddly, that couch looks like a combination of our current couch...
..and the one we bought about 4 years ago, which is now in the den.

Same shape as our current, same covering and color as the not-so-current.

Looks great. Congrats and continued success. :hi:

I think a nice crystal meth habit will keep the mind off the cigs.
