Any currency experts on D.U? Q. about thousand dollar bill... |
|
My husband found VERY old looking one dollar and one thousand dollar bills in an envelope somewhere today. The thousand dollar bill was odd-sized-- almost the size of a business envelope. Anyone heard of such a thing? Could it be fake?

They were used before EFT's do transfer large amounts of money between banks, and were legal tender, but not for the general public to spend as cash.

2. take it to yr bank & see if they can help you cash it in |
|
you might have to fill out a ctr or another gov't tracking form to cash it in if it's real, explain the circumstances & see if they can assist you
i once saw a one thousand dollar bill offered for sale for $997, but the nuisance involved in cashing it for a $3 profit wasn't worth it to me

3. It's still legal tender. They stopped printing them back in the 1940's, |
|
I believe, but it's still money. Follow the advice above and see if your bank can help you out.

4. Was it a whitish-colored envelope? |
|
'Cause I dropped some old money recently. You can mail it back to me whenever... :)

5. Sorry I got back to this so late! |

Thanks for the responses. My Husband left it at the office, so I can't see it, but after some research it appears it is either from a promotional thing in the 1960's, or it's from the 1800's. He found it inside an envelope along with six stamps and an old looking one-dollar bill. He needs to call the police and report it, anyway, since he found it, but we still don't know if it's authentic or not. We need to check the serial number to see if it's even from the series printed in the 1800's. Odd thing to find on the ground in a skywalk.
