I mean, you bought the game and the hardware to run it on.

YOU are the star in those. First person shooter, you know!

YOU interact with other people online.

In a movie, you just sit there and gawk at a large screen and get nautious as you watch a bunch of stereotypes in bulky outfits beat up critters who look like rejects from the movie "Aliens".

Sad. Sad. Sad.

1. Because they have completely run out of ideas
I knew that finally beyond a shadow of a doubt when they made the Scooby Doo movie.

Don't tell me it's a good movie. Even if it is, it still indicates a movie industry that is completely out of ideas.

3. There are plenty of ideas out there.
But most of those would not be seen as "appealing" (aka "instantly profitable") or incite thought (which is bad).

8. It's not that they have run out of ideas
It may seem like it. But the real problem is that the cost of producing a megastyle US movie has gone through the roof. As a result the production of movies is increasingly dependent on the financing. And that is dependent on being able to produce a forcast of profits based on known performance of past genres of movies.

Thus Hollywood can only turn out movies that have already been made or have a built in existing market.

9. In other words new ideas are not worth the risk
so just take retreads and milk and milk them over and over.

6. I'm shocked that Duke Nukem hasn't been done yet.
And, as someone observed, Quake will probably be ruined, too.

Damn, I remembe when the Quake engine was such a big deal...
