One thing I liked, watching "Iron Chef America" showdown between Ming Tsai
and Bobby Flay, was that both guys were snarfing down samples of their stuff all through the cooking.

I thought that was pretty realistic.

4. "If memory serves"
That would be my pick for the phrase to use in an Iron Chef drinking game.

The fortune teller judge was brutal.

11. I have a soft spot fo poor Ota.
Kaga: "If memory serves me right, today's theme ingredient is regarded as a delicacy on your world, while almost never used on our world. Supposedly it has a taste not unlike fine game hens or squirrel. Today's theme ingredient?! donkey."

"Fukui-san?" (pronounced "quison").
- Go!
- In this pan the challenger is frying an egg.
- An humingbird's egg? A cassowary egg?
- No, it's an ordinary chicken egg, Fukui-san.

5. I love the original Iron Chef, though I do enjoy Iron Chef America too.
It was quite satisfying watching Tsai kick some Flay butt.

13. To me, Iron Chef and Iron Chef America are totally different shows.
And I like them both, but in entirely different ways.

Iron Chef (the original) appeals to the part of me that likes MST3K. It's very silly and has goofy dubbing that keeps me rolling on the floor. I usually have a hard time following what's going on with the food, mostly because I'm not familiar with the ingredients and techniques being described. Some of the things they make sound pretty good, but definitely not everything.

Iron Chef America is more about the food for me. Without the dubbing it's not silly, except in a good-humored self-mocking way (I love the "instant replays"). It's still fun and entertaining, but I find myself learning more about ingredients and preparation techniques. I also like hearing about all of the different challengers from different parts of the country. Tom Douglas, one of the top chefs in Seattle, is supposed to be on the show later this year. I'm looking forward to that, since I've eaten in some of his restaurants.

7. Tsai won the battle of DUCK.
Everything both guys made looked really awesome.

I must say Ming Tsai's stuff did look, to me, a little better though.

I just thought it was funny that both guys were eating bites of their food the whole way, I don't remember seeing that on the original Japanese show.

10. I've seen the Iron Chefs and their challengers tasting their foods.
Not only that, putting their fingers in to taste the food and then double dipping. There was one dish recently that Chen Kenichi kept tasting and tasting over and over, apparently trying to figure out what was missing.
