NEWS ITEM: On Polly meeting her family after 54 years
Earlier this week, I mentioned that Polly's birth family found her after 54 years. Turns out it's not just news here at the house (and, of course, on DU), but also a pretty nice write-up in the Saginaw News today, too.
I stink at cutting and pasting internet addys, but I'll give this a try. If it doesn't work, could someone please straighten it out for me?

Seventh story down, titled "Now I Really Know Who I Am".
Thank you. Polly will be here all day. Don't forget to hug your family.
John
Polly's sidekick.

2. It's a great story.
When an adoptee needs to know, and finds a receptive family, it's wonderful. Polly is fortunate to have found her roots.
Thank her for letting you share this good news with us.

3. Polly has a 29-year-old daughter
And Sara (said daughter) has daughters of her own, ages 11 and 6. Needless to say, this is a BIG happening for them too. You know, "Instant Family -- Just add Internet."
Meanwhile, I'm doing my part -- knocking on neighbors' doors and grabbing the front section of the paper. I figure ten or twelve copies ought to do it (especially as a couple of the sibs live outside the Saginaw News' circulation area and will need copies, too).
John
Interestingly enough, my dad's grandfather was an orphan who was raised by a kindly couple in Bay City, MI in the 1890s and I have no idea of who the H family relatives are prior to that. So I'm happy for Polly for that reason, too.

6. Thanks, OB
Of course, we'd hope to see the Blues again at the next FUNDAY (XII) on June 17, 2006. We'll be sure to have several of the sibs here.
John
It's also Mike B's 50th birthday, so it'll be a big event. Of course, we won't expect to see you before 3pm this time (so get some sleep). Hope all is well and Polly says "hi."

8. What a story!
All I can say is WOW. We always thought Polly was pretty amazing, but this story is just a mind blower.

I am SO happy for Polly and her family...

11. Hi Laura
Edited on Sat Oct-22-05 10:49 PM by 5thGenDemocrat
We hope all is good with the 'Sand family down there in Illinois.
I'm still getting all the numbers together, but I THINK Polly has twelve siblings (eleven living), half of who still live in Saginaw.
Polly actually went to the same junior high and high school as at least two of her sisters. The sisters and Polly's adopted family lived within, like, six blocks of each other.
It is a pretty cool story (the actual newspaper has a photo, too). And Polly's as happy these past few days as I've ever seen her. It's nice to be in the middle of it all.
Our love to Kev and The Girl (and you of course),
John (and Polly)
As an aside, Polly's brother is a Rush Limbaugh fan -- but an okay guy for all of that. I introduced myself as one of those liberals Fatboy's always talking about. See you in June.

Yours worked; I'm not sure if this will. They might not appreciate folks bypassing the zip code, age and gender questions.

Anyway, cool story! Thanks for sharing. (nominating)
