2. Have a fan on high blowing into it
and break off chunks of ice as the thin layer next to the metal warms up. It starts off slow and then gets really fast.

3. I don't have a fan
All I got is an electric bar heater.

I already tried holding a cigarette lighter under the ice, but that wasn't very effective.

It's just the ice round the back of the ice box left now. It's so close and yet so far! It's still too solidly attached to be able to hack it off.

4. Did you put a pan of hot water in there?
That really speeds things up.

9. Try the pan thing. Use a pan with a lot of surface area
like a sheet cake pan, and change the water when it cools.

5. Is it your refrigerator? or your landlord's?
I would seriously consider trading it in for a frost-free type if it's yours....

Or if it belongs to your landlord...negotiating for a nice new one!

I remember defrosting.....it sucked big time!

Good luck, my dear billyskank!

6. It would suck less if I remembered to do it
more often than once a year! :dunce:

10. I am so a dunce!
I went to post in progmom's thread earlier and posted a new thread instead! So I deleted that post and tried again, and did the same thing again!

I kept pressing the "post" button up top instead of the "reply" button. Even if you're in a thread, the "post" button always starts a new thread, so I discovered today!

14. Hair dryer.
I use mine more for defrosting than for hair drying. I also use the pan of hot water too.

Question time was much better with Dennis Healey and John Smith present
As I am such a painfully slow typist, the above exchange had not been posted before I gave mine...
I am watching Eastenders right now BTW-talk about slow-my station is on an episode from March 2001.
