Pete Rose getting grilled on "Costas Now". Panel is very critical. |
|
Costas, John McEnroe and Jim Palmer are being very critical of Rose and his gambling banishment from baseball. Palmer was asked straight out, while sitting right next to Pete, kind of waffled on the question, not really giving an answer. McEnroe says that gambling is a worse problem that drugs spousal abuse or steroids. When asked about his betting on his own team, Rose stated that he awlays bet on his team to win. Do you beleive that? I do. Does Pete deserve induction now that he has come clean?

2. If McEnroe thinks that gambling is a worse problem than spousal abuse |
|
He ought to spend some time on the receiving end of it. What a stupid statement. :grr:

4. He was realting to the impact on the game. Not on society. |
|
But I agree with you, that was idiotic.

12. I tend to believe stuff Tatum O'Neal has said |
|
I know she had a very bad drug problem (addiction runs in her family on both sides), but he treated her very shabbily during their marriage and divorce. He's a JERK.

5. Pete should be in the Hall of Fame |
|
Pete based on his playing accomplishments should be in the Hall of Fame as long as he did not bet against his team. He also should be allowed to make promotional appearances at major & minor league baseball games.
I don't disagree with MLB banning Pete from working for a baseball team as a manager, coach etc. but I think preventing him from making appearances such as if the Reds have an event honoring the Big Red Machine of 1975-1976 and Pete is not allowed to attend is petty on the part of Major League Baseball.

6. Pete Rose knew the rules and he broke them. |
|
FYI, the Big Red Machine was my second favorite MLB team after my beloved Cubs and I adored Pete Rose.
Everyone in baseball knew that gambling on the game was a no-no since the infamous Black Sox scandal.
Pete made a huge mistake and he has to live with the consequences of his decisions. He gets no pity from me.

8. Thing is, even he bet on his own team to win |
|
he still could have been "fixing" the game. If he bet on his team to win by say, one run for a particular game, his actions as a manager could have cost his team the game if his "run-shaving" strategies didn't work out.

7. Who waffled on the question, Palmer or Rose? |
|
Palmer asked Rose some question, and Rose waffled on the answer? Or the other way around?

9. He has always deserved induction |

I think it is wrong that Baseball choses not to separate the on the field record from the off the field stuff for him...They did it for Ty Cobb.

10. Pete Rose definitely belongs in the Hall of Fame...his play on the |
|
field is what he should be judged on.
If they can let in drunks, drug abusers, wife beaters, steroid users...they can certainly find a place for Pete Rose.
Hell, Ty Cobb is in the Hall of Fame and he was one of the biggest assholes to ever play the game!!
Let Pete In!!!!

13. Exactly my point! There's not a good message being sent when |
|
Domestic abuse, assault, and drug abusers are held up as shining examples and inducted when Rose isn't. Did he do bad? Yeah. Has he been punished? Yeah. This is some type of skewed vendetta against him.
