2. If you ever visited a chicken farm and saw the filth in which they were
raised or visited a chicken processing plant and saw the filth in which they were prepared for your table, you would become an instant vegetarian. :puke:

3. Filth is legally prohibited in processing plants.
Have YOU ever been into one?

I have.

9. I have. A couple, actually, and the poster is correct.
Now, if you want real filth, in relation to chickens, check out an egg production establishment.

Legal...ha! What are there...like 2 inspectors for every 100 plants?

11. worst job I EVER did was muck out a commercial egg producing...

...facility between layer generations. The feces were liquid, and 3 feet deep under the risers. On entering the barn-- about 100 yards long-- the ammonia odor hit me like a baseball bat-- my lungs literally seized up and my eyes teared. We had to disassemble the risers first on both sides of the central aisle, standing inches above that gently rippling pool of feces. We occasionally found live chickens mired in it, struggling weakly. I threw my clothes away when we finished the job.

14. I helped liberate 150 hens from an establishment
that went into bankruptcy and stopped feeding. The manure lagoons were so...just, wrong. Hens drowning in it. They were starving. We found them homes. The smell is something you NEVER forget.

BTW, I'm a "terrorist" for my actions here. Ain't that about right.

22. Hey, flvegan, tell me, if you know,
how much better are the various "humane" free-range establishments? I spring the extra $2 / carton for the eggs that claim to be from a humanely-raised free-range type of establishment. I certainly hope they are. (They *do* taste way better, for some reason.)

23. Depends on the establishment
Ultimately, the best are local farm eggs. However, that's usually unrealistic. "Cage free" simply means that they aren't battery hens. They may have even LESS room to move, as they'll pack a hundred thousand of them into a barn. Same as "free range"

Your best humane bet, is even more expensive. Free range, organic, vegetarian, hormone free eggs that are certified humane. Probably need to go to a health food store for them, as well.

Good on ya for doing everything you can in your egg purchase.

8. I keep my chickens is a mobile coop, I move it twice a day
they have a clean patch of field to scratch to their little hearts content, I'd post a pic but ever since I loaded Adobe Photo on my computer , I can't send pics to photobucket, but I'm real proud of my invention, and the chicks love it, It's a lot cleaner, When they are done with my field I'm sending them on a world tour.

do just cracks me up!

Some weirdos actually eat them. Blech! The feathers stick to the roof of your mouth.
