Holy crap I've been cooking all day! |
|
And tomorrow is more of the same.
Today it was "Tempting Toenail Truffles" (Kahlua-flavored chocolate covered pretzel nuggets, some dunked in nuts or coconut).
Tonight it's been "Espresso Shortbread Headstones" to go on top of our pumpkin cake.
The party is next weekend!
Anyone else cooking up good fun for a Halloween party?
If you're local near Dallas and haven't gotten an invite or haven't RSVP'd, let me know!

It was mostly sweets today. Unless you wanted to send yourself into an irreversible diabetic coma, it might not have been your bag.
What are ya up to next Saturday, hmmmmmmmm???

It's Halloween after all!
I'm making a hijab (the full Muslim covering), and putting a sash over it saying "Miss America 2010."
Needless to say, the party is all liberal. It's our second. Last year's was pretty great! This year, the food will be better since I had time to learn all the potential fuck ups last time.

Trust me, I know about fuck ups. I'm an event planner. After countless events and weddings, you learn that it's all about being prepared and having a big roll of duct tape. :)
Remember, a little bit of everclear goes a long way in the punch. :P

12. Most important lessons learned last year.... |
|
Make the food look eaten!
I had this gorgeous cake out, and no one wanted to be the first to cut and take a piece! So this year, it gets a piece taken out first thing (by ME! I don't even think I got a piece I was so busy making sure everything was going OK!)
I also tried making shortbread for the very first time last year. Note to anyone with no experience. You HAVE to chill the dough, or it comes out a floppy mess, and does not harden to shortbread! I finished the cookies last night. They turned out great!
Lastly, our amazing graveyard out front needed some help. It was so dark you could hardly see it or our homemade vampire, Barlow. This year, we're putting flashlights at strategic spots to light up the yard.
I was so bunged up with it being a first party, that I couldn't relax and enjoy myself.
This year, I have a whole week to do everything at my leisure (having recently been laid off), so I'm a lot more relaxed and resigned to whatever might happen. I think the party will be much better for it. And the food will DEFINITELY be better.

I love Hallowe'en and baking. I don't have much call for baking Halowe'en treats, though. Sounds like your party guest will be very happy!
