The campaign motto is "Du bist Deutschland" (You are Germany). Appearing until January in cinemas, magazines and on television, the ads tell Germans they are pugilist Max Schmeling, race car driver Michael Schumacher, Olympic figure skater Katarina Witt and many other famous and not-so-famous citizens, living and dead. Germans are also asked to picture themselves as butterflies and Porsches.

"Achieve what you are capable of achieving," says conductor Justus Frantz in the crusade sponsored by 25 media companies, who have donated about $35 million.

Oliver Kahn, goalkeeper of the national soccer team, shares his own tonic: "I've experienced many heavy defeats as a sportsman that sometimes sapped my courage. But, again and again, I told myself to go on and not give up."

1. It is important for Germany to feel better than other countries.
Nothing could go wrong with that plan.

They need to be reminded that they, too, are German.

And parts of Poland.

The campaign is the product of conservative think tanks, fueled by money from media outlets. The very people earning money by sending Jerry-Springer rip-offs 24/7 (guess who has the time to watch that garbage) suddenly want to be the motivators of the nation.

So gloom is the reason for the lack of consumer-confidence?
Not the talk about raising the sales tax?
How come that the very people complaining about the consumer confidence are demanding to cut wages and access to healthcare?

Certainly a great perspective for people who can afford to think that things are so simple.

And who do they use as poster boys? Tax evasion specialists. Several of the campaign's poster-boys and girls moved to Switzerland or Monaco to evade the taxes - way to go, what can the message be?
Only think about yourself. Take what you can get. Don't join an union. Don't ask where the cheap labor comes from.
