Dammit.... Designer/gourmet pizza is not PIZZA!
Bertuccis is NOT pizza!

California pizza kitchen is NOT pizza!

Those are aberrations and blasphemous to genuine pizza lovers.

Pizza was always cheese and/or pepperoni... that was it.

Later on it was sausage, onion, green pepper, mushrooms, anchovies.

Okay, except for the anchovies, I might have the occasional pie with onions, green peppers and mushrooms. But, that's only because someone else insisted on ordering it that way or that's all that was left at the community lunch order.

Then it went downhill from there with: pineapple, shrimp, tuna, spinach, eggplant, turkey, etc.

WTF? IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!

2. What about artichoke hearts?
Does it count?

I also don't use cheese. And my pepperoni and sausage are made from soy.

Heh heh...if what you said was blasphemous, then I am the devil himself...

3. Actually...
Pizza was not always cheese and/or pepperoni.

They originally had nothing on them -- just flatbread.

Then came tomatoes, mozzarella and basil.

5. There's a reason for the tomatoes, mozzarella and basil
Apparently, the Queen of Italy or Benito Mussolini's daughter or some other high mucky-muck in the Italian government was coming to Naples for a state visit, and the chef they engaged to prepare the state dinner decided to make a special pizza in honor of her visit. It contained ingredients in the colors of the Italian flag--tomato sauce for the red, mozzarella cheese for the white and oregano (not basil) for the green. Anyway, this poor bastard cooked up a whole shitload of pizzas and served 'em up to the assembled guests. The high mucky-muck decided that this was a wonderful dish and passed a state law that all pizzas made in Italy must honor the Italian flag by having red, white and green ingredients on them.

Well, that's the way I heard it and I'm stickin' by it.

was the Magherita, Cheese, Tomatoes and Basil. ever notice you can't get pepperoni pizza in Italy? this is like claiming that Taco Bell has the ultimate burrito, and that any adaptations to it aren't really burritos.
