So this "friend" of mine went back to college last year. She's part Native American, and qualified to have her schooling paid for by her tribe. OK, totally cool. She then did her FAFSA and got several thousand dollars in grants from the Feds. Since the tribe paid all her schooling expenses, when the government grants were disbursed to her school, she already had a zero balance due, so the school cut her a check for the FULL amount of the grants! This just pisses the living shit out of me. I'm going to be up to my neck in student loans by the time I finish school, and she POCKETS grant money which she then uses to pay for a (really bad) BOOB JOB! So basically, grant money that COULD go to students taking out horrendous amounts of loans or getting insufficient aid, is instead going to pay for her breasts. It makes me want to puke.

tribe foots the bill. your friend should be in TROUBLE. i recommend you inform her that she should return the cash she received to the tribe. this could just be her last semester funded by either.

Last semester, she got a WHOLE lot of nice clothes. I didn't even know if it was illegal or not. It seemed like it should be-- but with all the red tape I've dealt with in applying for and receiving aid, I couldn't understand how it could go unnoticed. I do NOT like this girl (for numerous unrelated reasons) but she can't take a hint, and keeps calling me. She used to live next door to me and our kids adored each other. She is absolute trash and a lousy human being, the aforementioned issues aside.

Including living expenses while going to school.
The fact that she did spend a large sum of money on a boob job does not necessarily mean that she used that money to get her surgery.
She might not have been able to afford the surgery without the check, but that doesn't mean that she didn't have that much money worth of expenses either.
