Why do my dogs insist on eating the most dangerous things possible?
I just don't get it, today I came home to a chewed up triple blade razor.. Luckily the blades weren't swallowed. I hate to think what my dog's mouth feels like right now, I have a bunch of micro cuts on my finger just from picking them up. At least this wasn't as bad as my other dog who once cracked open a mercury thermometer.

Why the hell do they select the most dangerous items to chew on? It's not like I leave them within reach, they seem to search them out just to make me crazy.

1. Add my dogs to the list
They ate the whole package of "Stop Leak" (the stuff for a car radiator). It was a little packet and I don't know which one, or if both of them ate it. It couldn't have tasted very good.

2. Because they're dogs
I'm glad your dog is okay - what a crazy thing to try to eat. Mine used to do similar things, though. One of my dogs had a thing for electrical cords - she once chewed through the cord of my vacuum while I was using it! I was vacuuming away and the thing just kind of went vroooommm.... blah...

I glanced around and there she was with a big doggy grin on her Boxer face. How she kept from being electrocuted, I'll never know. ~sigh~

4. Dogs do not have "theory of mind"
Dogs do things because dogs do things.

Cats do things just to piss you off.

5. They are always tracking down new food sources
my gal was owned by a street kid, and she is FAST at scooping mystery eats up off the ground when we're walking. I don't catch her a lot of times and sometimes, the only evidence that she's made 'The Scoop' is leaves and sticks in her terrierist facial hair. Then I have to not laugh until I get her to spit which ever danger morsel (chocolate, racid food, cat vomit) out of her mouth. Then I have to throw it, or she'll try to scoop it up again.

8. My rabbit used to do stupid stuff like that
He had a great fondness for electrical cords, but he'd also nibble any books or clothes left on the floor.

He died of a bowel obstruction from eating carpet fibers. :(

9. Years ago I had an
American Doberman named Ben who weighed 130lbs. He ate five rose bushes. One day I saw him chewing on something in the back yard and when the sun hit it, it glistened. I went out to see what he had and it was a piece of glass about five inches long and two inches wide. I took it away from him and checked his mouth. It was fine. He also ate pop cans. He tore out and ate part of a screen and when he started on the aluminum siding, I gave him to a friend who lived in the country so he could get more exercise. He did about $500 worth of damage to my back yard and house and never seemed to be hurt by it. I think he was part goat!

10. I forgot about the pop can incident
One of them completely shredded a Dr. Pepper can.. The burrs that were left would certainly have caused intestinal trouble had she swallowed some. Luckily I think both of them are just chewers, not swallowers. Although I did find a cigarette butt in their poop once.

11. I think Ben ate the pop cans.
All I ever found was the chewed off ends. The thing is, we didn't buy pop in cans and I never figured out how he even got them. He always seemed healthy and happy, so I guess there was no damage. He was one tough dude.
