You know what really grinds my gears? Full Screen! |
|
Here I am Friday night all settled in to watch my new Land of the Dead DVD. I popped it in the player, turn on the surround sound, kick back on the couch and see on the HDTV screen "This film has been modified from its original version. It has been formatted to fit your screen" WHAT? I then look at the box and see what I once again failed to check at the store: Full Screen. FULL SCREEN! I HATE FULL SCREEN!!! AAAAAAAAAH! GAAAAARRRRRRRGH! DO NOT WAAAAAAANT!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! *gnawing on couch arm* I got my widescreen exchange but after I spent an evening watching a bunch of "stewie-head" oblong faces and super cropped scenes. I mean who watches this crap on purpose? yeah I know it's my own fault for not checking but come on! Come On!

3. My folks are like that |
|
Actually mostly my mom is. Dad just goes along. She says she wants the whole screen used. It doesn't make sense to her to not use it. I keep trying to explain about pan and scan and other annoying ways they reshape the screen. But she insists.

The Interpreter on DVD this weekend. Sydney Pollack (director) did a nice job explaining the difference between wide screen and pand-and-scan.

5. Oooh , that is too bad....... |

The pan and scan is such a SCAM!
I insist on letter-boxed or whatever they call it these days...
No editing by persons unknown to the director, thank you very much!
You have my complete sympathies, my dear Neo.....

|
and number two: how does the couch arm taste? :P

8. Full screen is the devil... |
|
Unless a film was shot to be shown full screen (The Shining, for example) it should be outlawed. It's an insult to the filmmakers as artists, in my opinion.

9. It's sad how many people think (typically old timers) that wide screen is |
|
only showing part of the movie. When I worked at a video store I spent a lot of time taking back w/s movies from people who thought full screen meant ALL of the movie (it's using the whole screen!), and wide screen was a miniturized version. I tried drawing diagrams and everything, but to no avail.
But a nickel looks BIGGER than a dime, so it must be worth more.....
