computer question HELP!
I've switched internet access (from AOL to PeoplePC--uses Internet Explorer) and now I can't access links that are in posts here on DU. I get a little hand and a red stop sign when I click on a link. I never had that problem with the AOL browser. How can I fix this?

1. First thing you need to do is download Firefox and stop using IE
Firefox is much more secure and allows you to restrict what others can put on your machine.

stopping you from following the link somehow. You used to access these settings in the tools menu. If you switch to Firefox it won't matter.

8. I was recently converted to a Firefox user by my friend...
...and since that I have had no problems with spy ware or viruses. Firefox is WAY better.

4. Might be a DNS problem..
This is just a guess.

Click Start--> Settings --> Network and Dial-up connections

Double click the connection you are using

Click Properties

Click on Internet Protocol

Click on Properies again

Click on use the following DNS server addresses

put in 4.1.1.1

Good luck.. I did that from memory.

5. tried that. now I can't get on via PeoplePC at all
I'm getting an error message that's telling me to re-install my dialup software. And now the PeoplePC website is down. My spouse is going to kill me for messing with this in the first place.

6. This is why I hate tech support over the phone..
Redo that and click on obtain DNS automatically. Or something like that. It should be towards the end of the process. Re-starting can't hurt..

That should put you back into the not getting your ass kicked by your wife/SO territory..
