I've heard it is like everything slows down.

Anyone know?

6. You can actually buy codeine containing cough syrup
without an Rx in Iowa. They keep it behind the counter and you have to sign for it, though.

2. Never tried it, but I had friends who did.
If their experience is any guide, Robitusson DM will seriously fuck you up.

5. Just out of it fucked up
As far as I know they didn't repeat the experiment and they were pretty serious about their "experimentation" if you know what I mean, so I took it that it wasn't an entirely pleasurable high.

There are plenty of decent highs out there with out resorting to swilling cough syrup.

8. there is a chemical
in robotussin called dxm (dextromethorphan) that can act as a mild hallucinogen if enough is taken. i've heard them referred to as "robotrips" before.

12. Be very, very careful when experimenting with DXM.
My daughter's former boyfriend had a psychotic split behind it (overdosed on Delsym), broke into a woman's house and slaughtered her dog, holding the police at bay for four hours until they were able to taser him and got him out of there, covered with blood. He didn't come out of his paranoid delusion for about a month, and ended up getting three years in jail. We would never have expected him to act this way -- he was always kind of quiet and didn't seem violent at all. This is one cheap high I wouldn't mess with.

9. An yes Robitusson parties
Back in the early 60's before anything was regulated and anyone could buy anything anywhere (and I mean that) and the over the counter stuff really worked, we'd all buy bottles of the stuff and have Friday night Robo parties. Talk about rubber legs, whoo hoo.

Sometime before we discovered pot in 1965, they changed it. And it didn't work as good when you were sick either.x(

13. I wouldn't really try, but when I had the
flu last year, my doc prescribed me some awesome cough syrup. It tasted like candy. It didn't have any kind of medicine-y taste. And it had lots of codeine in it.

15. Robotripping
I have had friends who've done it, but it's never appealed to me. You have to drink like a whole bottle, and you have to be careful because, man, it's a whole bottle of cough syrup--you're getting the DXM (that's the 'trip' drug) AND giant doses of everything else in the medicine. Read the labels carefully. And be prepared to :puke:, it seems like a common side effect. If you really want to know more check out www.erowid.org and search for Robotussin.

17. Houston is the "City of Syrup"....
On Sunday, April 17, the centerpiece story in the Arts and Entertainment section of The New York Times was a story about how, via the Slim Thug/Mike Jones/Paul Wall hit single "Still Tippin'," Houston's homegrown screw music was poised to take over the hip-hop nation. Screw -- the slowed-down hip-hop invented by DJ Screw as music for people to enjoy while high on codeine cough syrup -- was presented as something new, weird and uniquely Houstonian.

All of which it indubitably is -- at least for hip-hop. But it's mostly forgotten today that Screw was really the second Houston codeine aficionado to revolutionize a local scene. Back in the late '60s and early '70s, Townes Van Zandt turned Houston's folk and country/Americana music on its head, thanks in no small part to his appreciation for the drug that is today called lean.

I told former Houstonian and Texas songwriting legend Guy Clark about screw music -- which he had never heard of -- and here is what he had to say: "Some things never change. You can always count on Houston's codeine heads."

http://houstonpress.com/issues/2005-05-05/music/racket.html

I somehow missed this particular drug, even when I was young & wild. Contemporary Hip-Hop & 60's folkies? It takes a Lomax to make these connections. (Not that type of connection!)
