The FSM bedtime story reminded me of this...

When I was younger, I used to hear/see that Footsteps in the Sand thing, and it would have exactly the opposite effect on me than the one intended.

I'd see this guy talking about the absolute worst, crummiest days of his life, and then the other guy saying "well, I was carrying you on those days." The thing that always struck me was that it was pretty darned coincidental that the first guy always had bad days when the second one was getting up-close-and-personal.
