My Husband was just a little boy on a bus with his mother....
He remembers it more because he had an allergic reaction to liquid soap and his faced had swelled to twice its size. Ironically, everyone who boarded the bus gave him strange looks and then avoided him. He was with his mother and his aunt, on the way to the DIA (Detroit Institute of Arts). As they rode along, his mother leaned over and said,"See that woman in front of us?" "That's Rosa Parks." The woman she had pointed to turned around, winked at my husband, put her finger to her lips and whispered...."Shhhhhhh". At the next stop she was gone.

It was only about 10 years later, in a social studies class in middle school, that MrG realized who had winked at him that day, and the day took on far more meaning than just being the day his faced swelled up.

Rosa Parks, we'll miss you.

5. Hi bliss...
Anytime I would drive down I-75 and see the exit for Rosa Parks Blvd., I would think how lucky we were to have this treasure of a woman. She will be missed so. They are doing wonderful tribute to her this morning on the local stations here in Detroit.

9. Kwame said something this morning that really rings true... As long
as one person speaks your name, you will never die. I plan on speaking her name. to equality, true equality for every human.

21. The interesting thing is that MrG came from a confusing family dynamic...
His father was a Southern born bigot, his mother was a wanna be progressive, church mouse, who tried to bring culture and acceptance into her son's life. When we first met, MrG had a tinge of his father's prejudisms, but I am so proud of how far he has come. He's actually gone to Dem meetings with me. :)

Great story.

No one ever hears about the white man (name, etc.) who wanted her seat and what he thought about everything afterwards. Any clues DUers?
