MUST READ new book: "Tulia: Race, Cocaine, and Corruption"
I knew about this travesty of justice, but only the bare bones. OMG.... it's worse than I ever imagined!

1. That case led to the end of drug task forces here in Texas.
For the most part anyway.

Scary how much power ONE MAN man has when racists are in power.

2. It's just amazing how there was NO evidence
And all of the cases went 100% against textbook undercover operatiosn... yup, a bunch of racist AND FUNDAMENTALIST cops and lawyers (and, for the huge most part, they were both)... luckily, the defendants had some good lawyers and families and friends fighting for them....

3. Yep. "You know how them black folks are" is NOT EVIDENCE.
Just a disgusting piece of Texas history.

4. Scary thing? My in-laws and half my extended are like that
They would have convicted the defendant, too. They're black? Arrested? Poor? You just KNOW those "coloreds" did it. What white, Church-going man would lie about that?

7. Texas Monthly covered it fairly well
One more proof we live in a sick society....
And if you think racism isn't alive and well, then you either aren't paying attention or you aren't black.

Khash.
