So. I put my right foot in,
I put my right foot out. I repeated. I put my right foot back in again and shook it all about. I did the hokey-pokey AND I turned myself about. However, I'm still feeling a little discontented. Am I doing it wrong? :silly:

106. INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO DO THE HOKEY POKEY
How to "Do the Hokey Pokey"

The "Hokey Pokey" is a simple dance that helps teach DUers the parts of the body. It also helps tire DUers out.

Warning: encouraging your DUer to perform this dance just before happy hour may cause the DUer to become excited or cranky.

In order to perform the "Hokey Pokey" dance, do the following:

Stand in a circle.
Sing the following words, performing the actions described.
"You put your right hand in."
(Put your right hand into the center of the circle.)
"You put your right hand out."
(Let your right hand fall to your side.)
"You put your right hand in."
(Put your right hand back into the circle.)
"And you shake it all about."
(Shake your right hand vigorously.)
"You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around."
(Point your fingers towards the ceiling, and move your hands up and down, while turning in a small circle, until you are facing the center of the circle again.)
"That's what it's all about!"
(Giggle, clap, or otherwise communicate to your DUer the idea that the dance is fun.)
Repeat step 2, substituting "right hand" with other terms (such as "left hand", "right foot," "left foot," "head", and "whole self") as desired.
There is no specific end to this song. Continue as long as you wish.

Hint: If your objective for performing the "Hokey Pokey" is to tire out your DUer instead of yourself, you may omit the action of turning in a small circle at step 2.v. As long as the DUer knows to turn around at that point, you can just stand still and watch your little maniac burn off some energy.

*cough*

109. From the Wikipedia entry on the Dance
Participants stand in a big ring formation during the dance. The dance follows the instructions given in the lyrics of the song, which may be prompted by a bandleader or another danceleader.

Specific body parts are named, and these are then sequentially put into the ring, taken out of the ring, and finally wiggled around manically inside the ring.
After this is done one raises one's hands up to the side of the head, wiggles them, and turns around in place until the next sequence begins, with a new named body part.
A sample instruction set would be:

You put your left ear in
You put your left ear out
You put your left ear in
And you shake it all about.
...

In some cultures, this step is repeated to a new chorus,

Oh, the hokey pokey,
Oh, the hokey pokey,
Oh, the hokey pokey,
That's what it's all about.

94. Not Quite
I was baptised after the age of consent and I did not consent. But my mom made me. So I was baptised, forced to read and study the teachings and go to mass (technically a Catholic) and it was all done past the age of consent, without my consent (More technically NOT a Catholic).

My mom was a gypsy Catholic when she was a kid. She went to Catholic school (Holy Names AKA 'Homely Dames') and lived in an area where she could go to St Joe's to see her pals; St James, the archdioses thingy fancy cathedral chuch, when she needed a shot of the glam; and Immaculate Conception a perennially impoverished church (was then, is now) because she felt sorry for them. Sometimes, she'd hit all three on one Sunday.

At least the last 4 of us.

My mom lost 2 sets of twins - premature births. If they had survived, we would have had 13 in the family. When folks would see my mom with all of us, they would say "my you must be a good Catholic" to which she responded (straight faced & serious as can be) "No, I just like sex!"

I do miss my mom.

20. Did you shake it ALL about? I mean REALLY shake it all about?
Because if you only half-assedly shook it all about, you may get a less-than-stellar result. I would try something completely different. Go home, jump in the tub, and try a soothing lather-rinse-repeat cycle. I find that to be equally or even more effective than shaking it all about, at times.

25. I would do that, but my children have a Pavlovian response
to having their mother soaking in a tub. It requires them to pound on the door repeatedly and shout, "Mommy" 50,000 consecutive times without stopping to take a breath. When that doesn't work, the youngest one shoves a bead up her nose. In other words, my ass hasn't seen the bottom of a bathtub in more than seven years now. (and yes, I do shower).

So. To make a long story even longer: I think I'm stuck with shaking it all about. :)

My daughter thinks that if I'm in the tub, she NEEDS to be in there WITH me. I try to wait until after the kids are all asleep but sometimes that's just not possible. They seem to have that bionic hearing sense wherein they can discern the bathtub filling, from a different ZIP code.

"Must drink at least 15 various alcoholic beverages before performing this ritual."

And THAT'S what it's all about.

31. Tired.
There's been some really nasty stuff happening where I work. So much so, that I didn't think I'd have a job. In fact, I'm still not sure how I managed to come out of this whole mess unscathed.

But, the worst of it seems to be over. So, I'll just continue to be thankful that I'm still employed for the moment.

How the hell have you been? :loveya: :loveya: :loveya:

38. Joke
With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person which went almost unnoticed last week.

Larry La Prise, the man who wrote "The Hoky Poky", died peacefully at age 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in, and then the trouble started...

.... that's a DAMNED good point... it's the LEFT leg isn't it?

Oh man... your karma is going to be out of kilter with your chi for WEEKS if you start on the wrong side.

No wonder you feel all screwy JimmyJazz

61. You are right - it begins with the right hand!
Hey JJ - you've been using the wrong body part to begin, that's why it feels so "off" to you. Right hand first, 2) left hand
3) right foot
4) left foot
5) head
6) butt
7) whole self

47. Thanks.
Again, I'm grateful to have a job. But, it's scary to think I might not have one tomorrow. I'm taking solace in the fact that they changed the locks and provided me with a new key. I'm hoping that's a good sign.

:hi:

If not... nirvana will inevitably take a little while longer for you to achieve.
