Ack!!! I need computer help!!!! |
|
For some reason I can't access any information on my old cds, which I've got information going back into the mid 90's on. I have boxes of the things, loaded with pictures from vacations, tax information and who knows what else, and when I load them the computer reads as "0 bytes". I upgraded to Windows XP some time back and I'm suspicious that this has something to do with it, besides getting new computers every few years. I hate losing all this history, but I'm sure the cds are okay. At least I hope it's just something to do with WinXP.

1. What kind of discs are they |
|
There have been a number of different formats of burnable discs. If the type you used previously is not compatible with the dominant type it may be a problem.

74 minutes, 650 mgs. Not much else than that. These go back to the mid 90's. I can't belive that these are completely unreadable.

3. Don't panic yet. First thing. If you have a can of compressed air |
|
open the CD Drive and blow it out. Also, the upgrade to Windows XP does not have a CD burner. So if you have an extra copy of a CD burner install that.

are you trying to read them on? Sometimes a CD or DVD drive won't read them but a CD R/RW drive will.
