... Matthew Shepard's mother came to speak at our school. I though "No big deal", so I went down to hear what she had to say. When I walked to the auditorium outside the building were dozens of Fred Phelps wanna-be's with their "God Hates Fags" and "Your son is in Hell" signs. They all looked like they were from the back-woods with big bristly beards, white button up shirts, and dress slacks. They reminded me of the congregation at a snake-handlers church.

I just couldn't believe that people like them actually existed. That somewhere there were actually people who had remained absolutely immune to the cultural advancement that had taken place in the past 50 years.

It was a big wake-up call.

This "mother" is cut from the same cloth.

22. I posted this earlier, but folks, that there is my family...

I am not actually related to that woman, but that is how I was raised. Not at all uncommon in the south I grew up in in OK, TX, and LA. My mom asks me maybe twice a year if I 'believe in my heart the Jesus Christ is the Lord my Savior'. and I tell her, 'I don't want to talk about it, it's private.'

she tells me ' I remember the day you were saved...blah blah blah...so you still are saved, I couldn't bear the thought of you not being in heaven with me, please just tell me you know Jesus is the Son of God.'

ad nauseum.

and she's the easiest to deal with. There's distant relatives I see at reunions that are EXACTLY like this woman.

btw-i will be DVR'ing this and watching it for sure. :scared:
