But I stopped being called "Dick" (at least to my face) when I was 6 years old.

|
It is, in fact, possible to have two Richards in the Lounge at once. The common belief is untrue that the presence of more than one Richard in the Lounge would exceed critical mass, causing an event that would destroy DU and much of the surrounding internets. In fact it is quite possible for the Lounge to accommodate three, four or even five Richards at one time without exceeding safe levels.
I have never been called Dick, except by one guy who did it to take the piss. My piano teacher used to call me Rick, which is the closest I have come. Everyone else always calls me Rich or Richard.

|
When I was pregnant with Baby Bunny, I considered the name Richard (had she been a boy). But I was adamant that he would be called Richard, not Rich, or Richie, or Rick/Ricky, and certainly not Dick!
How are you today, Richardo? :hi:

Yes - I go by 'Rich' these days, except for my Mom, who still calls me "Richard'.
Nice story - so how is little Richardina's (for that MUST be her name) tailbone?

But I'm being nominated by her for Mother of the Year - she was scheduled to go on a class trip to Washington DC this weekend, and I had to break the news to her that she can't go (on doctor's orders). Boy, is she PISSED!!!!! HAHAHAHA!

22. My stepfather was named Dick ...and a Zappa memory. |
|
But he was such a nice guy, I could never bring myself to call him that... I always called him Richard.
His son, Little Dickie Jr., on the other hand, fully lived up to the name DICK...
Reminds me of an old tonight show with Frank Zappa in the Johnny Carson days. I will paraphrase from memory...
JC: You've given your children some unusual names... Moon Unit, Dweezil...
FZ: And my youngest son we called Ahmet... when he got to junior high school the kids were all calling him Ahmet Vomit, so he told me he wanted to change his name to Rick. That was fine with me, but soon the kids were calling him Rick the Dick. So, he went back to Ahmet. Now they call him Ahmet the Dick...

34. I have a hard time calling a man "Dick" unless |
|
he (a) is older, or (b) actually is one.
About twenty years ago, I worked with a young Dick. I remember asking one of his closest colleagues, "Does he, um, go by another nickname?" He laughed and said, "Yes, some people call him Rich."
I just found him too nice to be a Dick.

huge mainframe computer fuck up I figured out. He got a big fat cash reward. He, after all, was the programmer who had been up for HOURS trying to figure the shit out, while I just looked at the first longer-than usual number on the brazillion page report (the report should have been 5 pages-maybe 10).
I said "There-is that check-digitable?" and it was. Problem solved. I was just a part time bookkeeper though.
Ahhhh Nordstrom. Don't miss those Dicks one bit.

He seemed much more like a Rich or Rick, though - he was only a bit older than me. I had a friend whose father went by Dick as well. It seems more fitting with older men of the WWII generation.
