Cafeteria's
I'm curious.

I had a patient this afternoon that the first thing he did when he got of the plane was go to a cafeteria,he said he really misses them. He lives in DC and says there are no cafeterias there. He does alto of business in Boston and Philly too, and he said it's the same there too.

So, here's my question... are Cafeterias mainly a southern thing? Or is this guy just nuts?

10. Old Country Buffet isnt really a Cafeteria. It's a buffet.
There's a difference.

Sorry to be picky...but there you go.

11. How fat are your in-laws?
I went there once. I was amazed at the ratio of fat people to non-fat. Something draws fat people to the Old country buffet. Never mind- it must be the "all you can eat thing".

2. Since the only cafeteria I've ever been in
was in a public school, I'm guessing there are none of them up here in New York. Is it a buffet essentially?

3. Yeah, except it's not
all you can eat.. although some of them are like that now.

Luby's is a big chain here in central Texas.

The gentleman said that all they have in his area are "deli's"

4. Are they sometimes called "lunchaterias"?
I visited my relatives in Houston once and they took me to a lunchateria. I don't remember it too well. It was like 20 years ago. I do think it was a Luby's though.

I love the deli, though they aren't what they used to be. Often we prefer to get stuff from the deli counter in the supermarket and make our own giant sandwiches. Is there a deli counter in the supermarket there?

I remember that what I call a "laundromat" they called a "washateria".

Lunchateria's and washateria's.... Texan talk for ya! Luby's is where you most likely went. They are everywhere and have been around for a looooong time!

I don't think we have a true/blue deli counter here. I've been to one in NYC years ago, and it was such a neat thing. It was everything I imagined it would be... the meats, the cheeses and the big kosher dills!

They may have opened one up, Austin has grown so much... if there is one I am not aware of it.

6. The only thing I can think of along the line of a cafeteria
is Piccadily's.

8. Sunday dinner (lunch) at Britling's.
Once in a while granny wasn't up to Sunday dinner and after church grandpa took us to Britling's Cafeteria in Birmingham. Back then it was a real treat.

Later we had a Morrison's, too.
I've also been to Luby's in Houston.
Now I'd rather sit down and be waited upon.
