Have you ever met a neighbor and suddenly appreciated your dog? |
|
Your large, aggressive dog???
I was just spraying round-up all over the strip in front of the house and this dude shuffled by.
He wore a slightly vacant expression, and he was almost past me when he turned and asked:
"Whatcha doing? Killing weeds?"
"Actually, we're going to take out the grass and plant some other stuff."
"Like what?"
"Ornamental plants."
He seemed satisfied with this and shuffled on a few more feet, then he turned back and asked:
"You got a dog back there?"
"Uh, yeah."
"What kind?"
"Lab-Queensland mix."
"Big dog??"
"Uh, yeah."
"Well, that's good."
And then he shuffled on his merry way.

Maybe he thought he was being friendly. Maybe he was having a bad day? Some people just don't have people skills. Give the guy a break. Duckie

3. He was casing your home for a burglary. |

Why would he be asking about your dog? Is he a neighbor or a stranger? I actually have a neighbor who feeds my dogs treats. They run around his farm and my land. He complained to me that Buddy and Angel (the alpha's) were getting too comfortable- they hardly visited anymore. He does take comfort that the four pups come over everyday. Another guy who hays a Field near me also hunts the land. I was talking to him one day and offered to keep the dogs in the house while he was hunting. He said "No way!" Those guys get the deer moving toward my deer stand.
For the record, the dogs are all under 30lbs and are a mix of american eskimo and beagle. They have well over 800 acres to run on and the only road is a one lane country road with little traffic. There is a little danger to the dogs with this arrangement but they seem to enjoy it. The neighbors don't mind.
