11 Year Old Girl Handcuffed & Arrested For Bringing Butter Knife To School
<snip>

SPRING HILL, Fla. -- An 11-year-old Hernando County girl was arrested, handcuffed and taken to jail, after bringing a butter knife to school.

Investigators said the sixth-grader, who goes to Fox Chapel Middle School in Spring Hill, showed off a vial of powder she claimed was glitter.

The weapons charge came after her backpack was dumped out and a butter knife was found.

She was suspended as part of the county's zero tolerance policy.

School board members have declined to comment because the girl's expulsion case will be coming before them.

1. Zero tolerance
Wow, that's such a good rule! Myself and my friends all carried small pocket knives, because they were a handy tool to have. Glad I'm not in high school during these PC days.

2. I don't understand the glitter part.
She was showing some other kids some glitter, so the teacher/administrator dumped out her backpack?

What is this even supposed to mean?

If the "vial of powder" *wasn't* glitter, what are they trying to imply that it was? Drugs? If it was drugs, why wouldn't they have arrested her on a drugs charge? Surely one vial of evidence would be enough without dumping out her backpack.

What damage could she do with a butter knife that she couldn't do with a pencil, pen, or, God forbid, a compass? :eyes:
