2. I hear they're working on a sequel.
I haven't heard anything about it in a couple of years though. Apparently it's supposed to be the same ship with a different crew...later in time or something like that. There was even something dropped in an interview that a much older Ed might be in it.

I wonder what happened to that. Did it get cancelled or re-visioned?

3. Well they got smacked in the face for Samurai Champloo (minor spoiler)
It was a marketting problem. The series was great. But the Japanese market is saturated with Samurai stories. So it just never caught on.

When you get smacked down like that the usual response is to go back to something you know. Its gonna be interesting. Do they turn Spike's last scene into an injury instead of a death scene? They have the pretext for it. He did survive that fall before.

One of the things that makes Anime so much better than western series is that it tells a real story. There is no galactic reset button usually. People die or get hurt. There is a point/end to the story.

Fortunately they have a way to bring back chars and groups we grow to love. OVAs and revisioned series. Tenchi Muyo is the classic example. Multiple resetts of that series. Reworking the characters and seeing how they work in different arraingements. But still able to tell a story with a full arch and dynamic characters.

4. There's nothing in IMDB.
I know that Watanabe likes to have his series' fully scripted before any kind of production begins though, so it's not entirely suprising that nothing is in production yet. The Bebop movie only came out a couple of years ago and he's worked on other projects like Shamploo and T.A.T.A. since then. I'd imagine that it would be several more years until a sequel really got going.

Most of the info about a possible sequel came from interviews with Watanabe and a few of his subordinates about the time that the movie came out in the US. As I understood it, the idea wasn't to bring the cast members back, but to place it in the same universe later in time. The only constant would be the ship and (drumroll please) EIN! I know that I said Ed earlier, but when I started thinking about it I remembered that people thought it was funny that the dog would be the only character to make it to the sequel. Of course, we all know that Ein's a very special dog :)

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. With the enduring success of the Bebop franchise, I doubt that Watanabe will abandon it forever.
