Sick Dog, All he wants to do is drink water, lost some weight the last
few days, collar is looser, wont eat solid food not even table scraps.
I'm not sure if this contributed this to his condition but he ate a full tub of smart balance spread, mostly vegetable oil, he did eat some bones about a week ago but I think he's passed them...any ideas?

12. Had a diabetic cat in 1989
Was 17, gave him shot in morning and night. Lived to be 19+. Died peacefully in his sleep. Was a wonderful cat, just got old. Was worth every extra day.

14. You're lucky
not for the pancratitis or the cost but that diabetes in dogs is much easier to control than in cats.

Keep Karo syrup or honey on hand in case of hypos and remember that hypos kill faster than high sugar levels. Unless you're totally needlephobic, you'll do fine. Once you get the hang of it, you'll find that the dog's care will add about an extra 5 minutes to your routine every day. The biggest drawback will be finding someone to care for him if you need or want to go out of town and can't take him along.

2. Yes, call a vet.
Your dog sounds to be pretty sick - you need to call your vet right away and ask for some imemdiate advice and if he/she thinks the dog should be brought in for an exam.

11. I did, he's in rough shape but not as bad as the doc has seen
before, pancreatitis and underlying diabetes..he's on fluids and they'll monitor him overnite to try and stabilize his blood sugar

15. I hope your doggie is going to be OK.
That's why I got pet insurance for cases such as yours. I lost my Rottie back in 1999 to a blood deficiency disorder. It cost me a fortune in vet bills, but she died anyway. She had a good long life, though, as she was almost 12. When I got my new Rottie, Legend, I immediately got pet insurance.
